My payment is set up automatically. What should I do?
If you set up your payment from another financial institution (Ex. Chase Checking to SunWest Auto Loan) or you set it up manually through your MySunWest online account, you’ll need to temporarily cancel that external automatic payment.
Surepay loan payments are processed internally by SunWest, and we will adjust this on our end once the skip request is received. If you are uncertain how your automatic payment is set up, please call us at 602.866.1100 prior to submitting your skip request.
How does skipping a payment affect my loan?
Skipping a payment means your loan term will be extended by one month, and interest will continue to accrue on the unpaid balance. This will result in a higher total interest payment over the life of the loan.
Will skipping a payment impact my credit?
No, skipping a payment through this program will not affect your credit score, as long as you meet the eligibility requirements and submit your request on time.
How does skipping a payment impact my GAP coverage?
Skipping a payment may reduce the benefits of your GAP contract. Since the loan balance will be higher than originally scheduled, it’s possible your remaining loan balance might not be fully covered by GAP in the event of a total loss. Please refer to your GAP policy for specific details or contact us for more information prior to submitting your request.
Can I skip more than one payment?
No, each eligible loan can only be skipped once per year through this promotion.
Can I skip payments on multiple loans?
Yes, you may be able to Skip-a-Payment on more than one loan if you have multiple eligible loans. Each loan requires a separate request and fee.
Are there any loans that do not qualify for Skip-a-Pay?
Yes, the following loans are not eligible for Skip-a-Pay: Mortgages, Second Mortgages, Home Equity Lines of Credit (HELOC), Personal Lines of Credit, Credit Cards, Share Secured Loans, Share Certificate Secured Loans, and Credit Builder Loans.
Will I need to make a payment in January if I skip December?
Yes, skipping your December payment does not affect your January payment. You will need to resume your regular payments in January.
What happens if I already made my December payment?
If you have already made your December loan payment in advance, you can still take advantage of the Skip-a-Pay program. Your skipped payment will be applied to the next due date, likely January, depending on your loan type and payment schedule.
Can I cancel my skip request after submitting it?
Once your Skip-a-Pay request has been processed and the fee has been withdrawn from your account, it cannot be canceled. If you have any concerns, please contact us as soon as possible.
Can I submit a request after November 30th?
Yes, we will accept late requests. However, please be aware that any request made after November 30, 2026 will be subject to an additional $10 fee per loan for a total skip payment fee of $40.
*Terms, conditions and restrictions apply. Members in good standing are eligible to skip a payment on certain closed-end, non-real estate loans which are paid current to December of 2026. By skipping your loan payment for one month, you authorize SunWest to extend your final loan term by the commensurate number of days skipped. Interest will continue to accrue on your unpaid balance. If you make bi-weekly loan payments, you may skip a maximum of two payments. If you make weekly loan payments, you may skip a maximum of four payments. If you have made advance payments through December, we will skip your January payment. Any loan already paid through January 2026 is not eligible for this program. All other terms and conditions of the original loan agreement remain in force. If you have purchased GAP, refer to your policy for additional information. Mortgages, Second Mortgages, home equity lines of credit (HELOC), lines of credit, credit cards, share certificate secured loans and credit builder loans are not eligible. This offer may be modified or cancelled at any time. A $30 fee per loan will be deducted from your SunWest account at the time your skip a pay request is processed. Offer ends December 31, 2026. Any requests to skip your December loan payment after November 30 will incur an additional $10 fee per loan skipped. Each eligible loan may only be skipped once in 2026. Questions?
