Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between a personal loan and a personal line of credit?

A personal loan provides a lump sum upfront with fixed monthly payments over a set term.

A personal line of credit lets you borrow as needed, repay on your own timeline, and only pay interest on what you use. Rates are typically variable.

If I pay my balance in full, is my line of credit closed?

No. A personal line of credit is revolving, so your funds remain available after you pay down your balance unless you choose to close the account.

How is my minimum payment calculated?

Your minimum payment is based on a percentage of your balance. Specifically, it’s 3% of the midpoint within each $1,000 balance range. This gives you a low monthly payment that fits comfortably in your budget, but allots more toward the principal balance, paying your personal line of credit off quicker and saving you interest.

Example:
If your balance falls between $4,000–$5,000, the midpoint is $4,500.
3% of $4,500 = $135 minimum payment.

This structure helps keep monthly payments manageable while still paying down your balance efficiently.

Is it better for my credit to pay off my balance or make the minimum payment?

A good rule of thumb is to use no more than 30% of your available credit. You don’t need to carry a balance to build credit, and paying your balance in full can help you avoid unnecessary interest.

Is there a grace period on interest for lines of credit?

No. Unlike credit cards, withdrawals from a line of credit are considered advances. Interest begins accruing on the transaction date.
